SERIES “A” FEDERAL LEAGUE COMPETITION TIGHTENS AFTER WEEK 6

 

The Series "A" Federal League competition in the South Conference became on open field with only four and a half games separating first place Palfinger Italia Reggio Emilia and last place Acotel Urbe Rome of the.  Reggio Emilia is a meager half game ahead of second place Comcor Engineering Modena with CUS Messina and E-Tecno1 Sala Baganza only one game off the pace.  The competition thickened after Banca Etruria Arezzo-Florence surprised Reggio Emilia, taking the first game of their doubleheader 8-6 in eleven innings.  Reggio Emilia dominated the rematch against Arezzo-Florence, 8-0.  Modena capitalized on Reggio Emilia's stumble, as the city that is the home of the Ferrari swept Heila Poviglio 12-3 and 5-4.  Down in Sicily, Messina engineered a sweep of Rome 5-3 and 14-8.    Collecchio and Viterbo split a pair of games, with host Collecchio snatching the opener 9-8 and Viberbo returning home on a winning note, 6-2.  Anzio and Sala Baganza were rained out

The North Conference is a bit more widespread with 6.5 games separating first and last place.  Eurodirm Codogno dropped its opening game Saturday night to the Redipuglia Rangers 4-3.  Codogno edged by Redipuglia 2-1 in the Sunday morning contest.  Second place Senago-Milan United wasn't able to take advantage of Codogno's loss because Senago-Milan split its series with Rebecchi-Cariparma Parma.   Third place Ponte di Piave cruised to victories over Turin's Juve 98, 8-6 and 11-1 (7 innings).  Bollate bashed Rovigo 16-1 (7 innings) and 5-2.  Elettra Energia Novara celebrated its first win on the season and also its first doubleheader sweep in which it was on the winning end.  Novara hosted Cagliari, but the team from Sardinia was the official home team in Piemonte.
