After placing second in the U18 European Baseball Championship and thereby qualifying for the WBSC U18 Baseball World Cup, Team Italy along with Euro champion Kingdom of the Netherlands will have to wait until 2022 for the international competition to take place due to the ongoing pandemic.

Originally scheduled from September 10-19, 2021, the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup in Bradenton and Sarasota, Florida has been postponed until 2022 as a result of the ongoing pandemic internationally. Kingdom of the Netherlands and runner-up Team Italy recently qualified for the event after placing first and second respectively in the recent  2021 European Baseball Championship in Macerata and Montegranaro. Both squads will use the extra time to prepare for the fierce competition hosted by Team USA.

The new dates for the event will be announced at a later time, and all tickets purchased will be refunded in a timely manner. Updated ticketing information will be provided when the rescheduled dates are announced. It is anticipated that Ed Smith Stadium and LECOM Park, the Spring Training homes of the Baltimore Orioles and the Pittsburgh Pirates, will remain as the venues for the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup

Host USA Baseball Executive Director and CEO Paul Seiler said, “We are disappointed to postpone welcoming what will be one of the premier baseball events in the world to our home soil; however, we fully support the decision in light of the continued impact the coronavirus pandemic is having around the globe. Ultimately, it is about protecting the health and safety of the players, coaches, and staff, as well as the local communities in Florida, and this decision allows us to achieve that to the best of our abilities. We will continue to move forward and be ready to host a truly spectacular event in front of our home fans next year.”
